The 18th Annual DeVore Essay Contest is an annual event hosted by the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum in Wichita, Kansas. Sponsored by the DeVore Family Fund, the competition encourages local students to conduct original research on regional history based on the current National History Day theme.

2026 Contest Details
Rules & Format
Submission & Awards
•Theme: "Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History"
•Deadline: Entries must be received by April 15, 2026
•Eligibility: All Sedgwick County students in grades 6–12 (including public, private, parochial, and homeschool students)
•Topic Requirement: The essay must focus specifically on Wichita and/or Sedgwick County history
•Prizes: One winner from each grade range (6–8 and 9–12) will receive a $250 prize
•Word Count: 300–600 words
•Form: Handwritten in ink, typed, or computer-processed in 12–14 point black non-script font
•Requirements: Must include a Title Page (with name, age, address, phone, email, and school/grade) and a bibliography listing all references
•Originality: Must be the student's original work; direct copying without proper quotation marks and citations will result in disqualification

•Awards Ceremony: Winners will be announced and recognized at the 2026 Young Historian Awards on May 2, 2026, held in the Museum’s DeVore Auditorium
