Elgin Theatre Company presents Fade at the Elgin...
The Elgin Theatre Company is presenting Fade, a semi-autobiographical play by Tanya Saracho, at the Elgin Art Showcase in April and May 2026. Directed by Ira Gerard-Di Benedetto, the production follows the evolving relationship between Lucia, a Mexican novelist newly hired as a Hollywood TV writer, and Abel, the building's Mexican-American janitor.
The production runs for three consecutive weekends in 2026:
Performances take place at the new location of the Elgin Art Showcase:
All seating is general admission with no reserved seats.
Lucia feels out of place in a white-male-dominated writers' room until she befriends Abel, the only other Latino on staff. As they bond over shared heritage and personal struggles, Lucia begins to incorporate Abel’s life stories into her scripts, leading to a complex exploration of class, ambition, and the ethics of storytelling.
