What to Bring
Registration Information
•Dates: Monday, June 1 – Friday, June 5, 2026.
•Monday – Thursday: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
•Friday (Field Trip): 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM.
•Location: MT Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Region 5 Headquarters, 2300 Lake Elmo Drive, Billings, MT 59105.
•Target Audience: Youth ages 10–14.
•Cost: Approximately $300 per student (based on recent years).
•Technical Skills: Fly casting, equipment setup, fly tying, and knot tying.
•Knowledge: Stream reading, entomology (aquatic insects), and safety.
•Ethics: Stream and lake etiquette and nature stewardship.
•Field Trip: On the final day (Friday), students are bussed to Red Lodge, MT, for a full day of fishing to apply their new skills.
•Required Protection: A hat or cap and sunglasses are mandatory for eye and head protection during casting.
•Gear: A 5 or 6 weight fly rod with floating line and reel (equipment can be loaned by the club if needed).
•Personal Items: Sack lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, and a jacket or raincoat (the camp runs rain or shine).
