The Phonics Reading Club for Kindergarten and Grade 1 is a specialized literacy program hosted by the Markham Public Library (MPL) in partnership with York University students. The program focus is on foundational reading skills, including identifying alphabet sounds, blending (CVC words), and reading simple sentences in small group settings.
The club is currently active at the Milliken Mills Branch for the Spring 2026 season.
If the Phonics Club is full, Markham offers several other targeted literacy programs for this age group:
Offers afterschool and weekend literacy enrichment for JK–Grade 12.
Provides afterschool reading and writing programs for ages 18 months to 12 years.
Offers a "Power of Early Reading and Writing" program for JK to Grade 1.
Would you like me to check for summer camp registrations or online literacy programs for these age groups?
