While there have been no major terrorist attacks reported directly in Baton Rouge in 2026, the city and its leadership have been heavily involved in responding to a significant ISIS-inspired terrorist attack that occurred in nearby New Orleans on January 1, 2025. 

The East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) remains the primary agency for protecting the parish against man-made disasters and terrorist threats. Currently, there are no active terror alerts for the city.

2025 New Orleans Bourbon Street Attack Response: On January 1, 2025, a 42-year-old U.S. citizen from Texas, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and injuring dozens more.
Baton Rouge Involvement: Governor Jeff Landry, operating from Baton Rouge, issued a State of Emergency and a period of mourning for the victims.
Memorial Commission: In April 2025, Governor Landry established the French Quarter Terrorism Attack Memorial Commission to create a permanent tribute to the victims.
Security Measures: Following the 2025 attack, state officials increased security protocols, including deploying the National Guard for New Year's events in late 2025 to prevent similar incidents.
