Casual packing employees receive an additional 25% loading, bringing the rate to AU$31.38 per hour with no less than four hours paid per shift. Overtime applies at 1.5 times the rate after 38 ordinary hours per week.
Q Which visa allows international applicants to take packing jobs in Australia for up to 12 months in 2026?
As per the Department of Home Affairs, holders of Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) or Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) can perform packing work in warehouses or farms for up to 12 months. Applicants must be aged 18-35 from eligible countries and obtain the visa before starting any paid packing shifts. Extensions to 24 months are possible only after completing 88 days of specified regional work.
Q What education or experience is required to qualify for entry-level packing jobs in Australia?
As per the Fair Work Ombudsman, no formal education or prior experience is mandated for entry-level packing positions under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award. A valid White Card for construction sites is needed only if packing occurs in building supply warehouses.
