As per the Fair Work Ombudsman, the national minimum wage for packing roles under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award is AU$25.10 per hour from 1 July 2026. Casual packing employees receive an additional 25% loading, bringing the rate to AU$31.38 per hour with no less than four hours paid per shift. Overtime applies at 1.5 times the rate after 38 ordinary hours per week.
Q Which visa allows international applicants to take packing jobs in Australia for up to 12 months in 2026?
As per the Department of Home Affairs, holders of Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) or Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462) can perform packing work in warehouses or farms for up to 12 months. Applicants must be aged 18-35 from eligible countries and obtain the visa before starting any paid packing shifts. Extensions to 24 months are possible only after completing 88 days of specified regional work.
Q What education or experience is required to qualify for entry-level packing jobs in Australia?
As per the Fair Work Ombudsman, no formal education or prior experience is mandated for entry-level packing positions under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award. Employers may require basic numeracy and the ability to lift 20 kg repeatedly, with on-the-job training provided within the first shift. A valid White Card for construction sites is needed only if packing occurs in building supply warehouses.
Q What documents are needed to apply for packing jobs through official Australian channels in 2026?
As per the Department of Home Affairs, applicants must provide a valid passport, tax file number issued by the ATO, and proof of right to work such as a visa grant notice.
