GOV.UK sets the National Living Wage at £12.50 per hour for all workers aged 21 and over as of 1 April 2026. Employed plumbers must receive at least this rate for a standard 40-hour week, equating to £500 weekly or £26,000 annually before deductions. Overtime must be paid at no less than the minimum rate.

GOV.UK requires a minimum salary of £38,700 or the occupation going rate for plumber roles under SOC code 5314 on the Skilled Worker visa. Sponsors must issue a valid Certificate of Sponsorship in 2026, and the role must be at least RQF level 3. The visa duration starts at up to 5 years.

GOV.UK states plumbers need an NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing and Heating or equivalent plus registration with a competent person scheme such as CIPHE. New entrants from 2026 must complete an apprenticeship or college course meeting Part P building regulations. No experience substitutes for the qualification requirement.

GOV.UK requires a National Insurance number, proof of qualifications such as NVQ certificate, and right to work evidence for all plumber applications.
