As per the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the adult minimum wage for welders in New Zealand is NZ$25.50 per hour from 1 April 2026. Welders working over 40 hours per week must receive time-and-a-half for the first three hours of overtime and double time thereafter. This rate applies to all employees aged 16 and over regardless of qualification level.

As per Immigration New Zealand, overseas welders need a Skilled Migrant Category visa or an Accredited Employer Work Visa valid for up to three years. Applicants must hold a job offer paying at least NZ$29.66 per hour and provide an International Qualification Assessment showing Level 4 or higher. As per Immigration New Zealand, applicants must submit a current passport, NZQA qualification assessment, welding certificates, and a detailed CV showing 24 months of relevant experience. Police certificates from the last five years and proof of NZ$4,000 in savings for living costs are also mandatory for visa applicants. All documents require certified English translations if not originally in English.
