Job Purpose

The lead welder/fabricator will fabricate new equipment and provide preventative and repair services to current equipment owned by Griffin. This may include work on both electric and diesel-powered equipment, engines, centrifugal pumps, vacuum pumps, pipe, fittings, etc.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Complete all daily reporting and project specific paperwork daily.
• Set daily project progress goals, in accordance with project labor budget, for crew and report progress or issues to Floor Manager.
• Ensure all work is being performed safely, site safety procedures are being followed, all Griffin personnel are utilizing proper PPE, and all work is being performed in accordance with Griffin’s SOPs.
• Effectively communicate with and supervise co-workers.
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
• Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces for welding together.
• Weld components in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
• Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover welding flaws.
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
• Complete daily paperwork including equipment tear down reports, inventory reconciliations, equipment repair estimates, material list outbound and inbound checks.
• Assist the Floor Manager in training and maintaining an effective workforce.
• Safe operation of hand and power tools, pumps, welding machines, and electrical equipment.
• Safe operation of diesel and electric powered lifting equipment.
• Follow directives accurately and efficiently.

Skills
• Proven experience as welder and fabricator.
• Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (MIG, TIG, MMA etc.)
• Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.).
• Welding, up to ½” steel, aluminum, & stainless steel, flat and round.
• Metal preparation (torch, plasma, drill press, band saw, grinders, etc).
• Measuring / assembling.
• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
• Deftness and attention to detail.
• Proficient in English

Qualifications/Requirements
• Legal to work in US.
• Pass required drug and background screens.
• Minimum High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience of welding and fabricating

Preferred Experience
• 5+ years’ welding experience.
• Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
• Welding certificates
• Pump repair experience
• OSHA 10 Certified.

Physical Demands
• Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and stand.
• Must be able to lift 50 - 80 pounds daily.
• Must be able to load, unload, and move large equipment and tools.
• Continuous walking, stair climbing, and lifting
